A better future for people with disabilities through supporting individuals and their families to live ordinary lives within the community.

Welcome to the CCS Disability Action Otago Website
CCS Disability Action Otago  extends from Palmerston (south) to the southern  boundary  of the Clutha district  and inland to Central Otago and Wanaka. The branch office is sited in Dunedin.

CCS Disability Action has a vision that  every  disabled person  will be included in the life of their family and community. To  achieve our vision we are taking action to make Aotearoa/New Zealand a society where everyone plays their part to  include all  people - family members,  friends, hapu, iwi, educators, health workers, business people,  employers,  councils, government, community agencies and the public.

CHECK YOUR MOBILITY PARKING PERMIT EXPIRY DATE

17th November 2009

Specially marked vehicle parking spaces are available in Dunedin for people with mobility difficulties.
While the mobility spaces are not new, CCS Disability Action Otago Branch Team Leader, Mel Smith, says they have proved their worth time and time again. “As the issuer of Mobility Parking Permits, one of the most frequent comments we hear from people is “I couldn’t do without it”.

With the Christmas shopping rush period soon upon us Ms Smith recommends that existing permit holders should check that their card has not expired. “The last thing someone needs at this busy time is to incur a fine for parking too long because their permit has expired.”

As a result of collaboration between CCS Disability Action Otago and the Dunedin and Clutha District Councils, Mobility Park permit holders in Dunedin are now able to access a list of Mobility Parks, public and private, available to permit holders in Dunedin and Balclutha.

The Mobility Parking Permit Scheme is an officially recognised concession-parking scheme owned and administered by CCS Disability Action with the cooperation of local doctors and all city and district councils.

A Mobility Parking Permit enables the permit holder to park conveniently close to their destination in accessible reserved parking spaces or park longer than the stated time in some standard car parks and metered spaces.

Ms Smith says that permit holders need to meet a set criteria; “You must be unable to walk and be reliant on a wheelchair for mobility, or rely on mobility devices like crutches or a walking stick or walking frame, or be unable to walk more than two hundred metres unassisted because of the nature or severity of your condition.

“If you meet any of those criteria, you will receive an orange card stamped with a membership number and expiry date. The permit must be clearly displayed on the inside front windscreen of the vehicle while you are parked,” she said.
“A long term permit is valid for five years and costs $45. Someone with a temporary disability, like a broken leg, may also be eligible for a permit. A temporary permit is valid for twelve months and costs $30.”

All applications need to be certified by a doctor.
